Uplifting Musical Tribute Marks 8th Yahrzeit of R’ Benzion Shenker z”l
On Wednesday evening, 19 Cheshvan, an uplifting musical event was held to commemorate the 8th yahrzeit of the legendary singer, composer, and interpreter of Modzitzer music, R’ Benzion Shenker z”l.
Hosted in the home of Rabbi Aron Orlander in Boro Park, the evening drew family members, fans, and admirers of authentic negina from across the tri-state area, all inspired by R’ Benzion Shenker’s timeless melodies.
Rabbi Aron Orlander, an expert in Modzitzer negina and a master of R’ Benzion Shenker’s rich repertoire, joined with his musical partner, Rabbi Duvid Bick, to present a heartfelt selection of nostalgic musical treasures.
The program featured beloved classics, as well as lesser-known gems, including soulful songs, elegant waltzes, and stirring marches.
The evening was elevated by the participation of renowned musician Andy Statman, who lent his virtuosity on both clarinet and mandolin, and Dov Lenchevsky, whose masterful piano accompaniment added depth and dimension to the performances.
A highlight of the event was the presence of R’ Yossi Newmark, a grandson of R’ Benzion Shenker, who beautifully vocalized some of his zeide’s most cherished compositions, infusing the evening with personal warmth and familial connection.
