Urgent Community Warning: Hatzolah and Pediatricians Unite Over Measles Concerns

By Y.M. Lowy

Local pediatricians are raising concerns over a growing number of measles cases reported out of Eretz Yisroel in Frum communities.

Several children have been hospitalized, and one case has led to long-term complications. Pediatricians say the rise in infections is linked to lower vaccination rates in recent years.

Measles is one of the most contagious diseases in the world, and doctors warn that it can lead to serious health problems, including pneumonia, brain inflammation, and hearing loss. The illness can also weaken the immune system for years, making children more vulnerable to other infections.

In response to the rising cases, a large group of Boro Park pediatricians signed a joint letter with Hatzolah urging parents to vaccinate their children and reminding the community that the MMR vaccine, which protects against measles, mumps, and rubella, is both safe and effective. They cited decades of research and experience showing that two doses provide long-lasting protection for nearly everyone.

Schools and yeshivas are being asked to check that students’ immunizations are up to date to prevent further spread.
