Virtual Meeting for Brooklyn Marine Terminal Environmental Review
By Yisroel R.
The New York City Economic Development Corporation will hold a virtual public meeting on Monday, March 16 at 6:00 p.m. to discuss the environmental review for the Brooklyn Marine Terminal project in Red Hook.
The meeting will focus on the Draft Scope of Work, which explains what issues will be studied before the city makes any final decisions. These studies are expected to look at traffic, air quality, construction impacts, infrastructure, and open space. This is the fourth public scoping meeting on the project.
The Brooklyn Marine Terminal covers a large stretch of waterfront in Red Hook, including active shipping piers and areas near the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal. City officials say the goal is to repair and modernize the port, improve waterfront protection, and possibly allow new development nearby. Supporters say shifting more freight to waterways could reduce truck traffic on city streets.
Some residents have raised concerns about traffic, environmental impact, and the size of the proposal. The virtual meeting is open to the public, and interpretation in other languages will be available.
