Warning For Local Kohanim Concerning Two Local Cemeteries

Warning For Local Kohanim Concerning Two Local Cemeteries

By Idy Perl

The Vaad Mishmeres Kehina has issued a warning for kohanim concerning two local cemeteries.

The trees that grow from the Washington Cemetery and Greenwood Cemetery have overhanging branches that reach out onto the sidewalk. The trees were trimmed two years ago in order to allow kohanim to pass by, and now, two years later, the branches have grown back and are once again posing a problem for kohanim.

The Vaad is working with the local Parks Department to get the trees trimmed, but until then kohanim are not allowed to walk or drive on 20th Avenue and Bay Parkway, and Fort Hamilton Parkway and McDonald Avenue. The issur is on all the lanes besides the last one that’s furthest away from the cemetery and no longer under the trees.
