WARNING: Illegal Taxi Can Result in Serious Safety Concerns

By BoroPark24 Staff

A car has been spotted around the neighborhood with a handwritten “taxi” sign propped on a small billboard against the window, circling busy streets and trying to pick up riders. It’s the kind of thing that looks casual and harmless at first glance, but it’s worth paying attention to.

Cars operating like this aren’t licensed and aren’t tied to any service. There’s no verified driver, no trip record, and no one to reach out to if something goes wrong. If the driver changes the price, drops you somewhere you didn’t ask for, or something turns up missing, there’s no way to follow up afterward.

What feels cheap and convenient in the moment can quickly turn into a headache. A licensed car or an app ride costs a little more, but you know who’s behind the wheel, the trip is logged, and there’s accountability if you need it.

Stay alert and stick with the options that keep you protected.
