West Nile Virus Found in NYC Mosquitoes
By Y.M. Lowy
Mosquitoes carrying West Nile virus have been found in 15 ZIP codes across New York City so far this season, with confirmed cases in Queens, the Bronx, and Staten Island. Brooklyn has not yet reported any cases.
The city tracks and tests mosquito populations every summer and updates results weekly. An interactive map shows which ZIP codes have detected the virus, helping New Yorkers stay informed as mosquito season continues.
Most people infected with West Nile don’t feel sick, but in some cases, the virus can cause fever, headaches, body aches, and fatigue.
While no human cases have been reported this season, health officials encourage residents to take simple precautions, like using repellent and removing standing water from yards or balconies.
