Woman Killed After Being Struck by Sanitation Truck on Bay Parkway
Yisroel R.
A 30-year-old woman was tragically killed Wednesday evening after being struck by a New York City Department of Sanitation truck near Boro Park.
The incident happened at around 6:35 p.m. on Bay Parkway, where Siobhan Lynch was crossing the street when a sanitation truck making a right turn onto Bay Parkway struck her.
Lynch suffered severe injuries and was rushed by EMS to NYU Langone Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The 41-year-old driver of the sanitation truck remained at the scene following the crash. No arrests have been made, and the NYPD Highway District Collision Investigation Squad is investigating the incident.
The Department of Sanitation called the incident a terrible tragedy and said it is cooperating with the NYPD investigation.
The fatal crash comes as the city enters a time of year when pedestrian crashes traditionally become an increased concern, with earlier sunsets reducing visibility during busy evening hours.
