Young Israel Beth El Receives Sacred Sites Grant

By Idy Perl

The Young Israel Beth El of Borough Park, the iconic shul that has been standing in Brooklyn since the 1920s, has been awarded a Sacred Sites Grant from the New York Landmarks Conservancy to help with much-needed renovations.

The Landmarks Conservancy announced that they will be distributing a total of $228,000 in grants, which were awarded to 14 historic religious properties throughout New York State. The Young Israel Beth El of Boro Park received $20,000 to assist with much needed renovations to the roof and dome of the shul.

Peg Breen, the President of the New York Landmarks Conservancy, said in a statement that they are delighted that the grants will help diverse congregations maintain their buildings and continue to serve their communities.

As reported on BoroPark24 here, the shul has launched a “raise the roof” campaign, in which the roof and dome were renovated and preserved for many more years to come.
