After BoroPark24 Report, NYC DDC Apologizes for 44th Street Ticketing Error, Offers Relief to Residents

By BoroPark24 Staff

BoroPark24 recently reported on the frustration of 44th Street residents between 14th and 15th Avenues, who woke up last Shabbos to find parking tickets on nearly every vehicle on the block. The street has been labeled “under construction” for months, yet broken barricades and scattered cones have left the area in disorder. Despite no active work taking place, ticketing crews hit the block in full force, leaving residents outraged.

After our article brought the situation to light, the NYC Department of Design and Construction (DDC) reached out with a response. In their email, they apologized for the error that caused multiple residents to receive tickets. DDC explained that the parking signs on the street were more restrictive than the notices that had been distributed to residents through their Community Construction Liaison, which led to the mass ticketing.

NOTICE TO AFFECTED RESIDENTS: While DDC cannot cancel the tickets themselves and cannot guarantee they will be dismissed, they are offering a solution. Residents who received a ticket during this time can request a personalized letter from DDC to the NYC Department of Finance. The letter, signed by a senior project manager, explains that the tickets were issued in error and states that the vehicles were legally parked.

Residents can contact Community Construction Liaison Tyler Reynolds by email at gkoh1503ccl@gmail.com or by phone at 718-310-6286 to get their letter.

DDC also said they are working with their contractor to ensure this kind of mistake does not happen again. BoroPark24 will continue following this story and keeping the neighborhood informed so residents know exactly what to do if they are affected, and when to expect road closures and parking restrictions.
