An Historic Evening with the Gerer Rebbetzin

Alongside the historic visit of the Gerer Rebbe to the United States, where he will hold the wedding of a grandchild, and strengthen the chassidim on these shores, a historic night in the history of the chassidus took place Tuesday evening in Boro Park—when the Gerer Rebbetzin, tilt”a, brought together 1,000 women of the chassidus for a rare event.

 “This is something that even the women in Eretz Yisroel do not merit; as the Rebbetzin, her daughters, and daughters-in-law gathered in one place with the women of the chassidus,” explained one of the coordinators of the event. They explained that there still remains a lingering sense of palpable elevation among those who attended. “We still cannot believe the magnitude of the event, to meet the women of the Rebbe’s family on American shores… that is history, and a deeply special and privileged event for all of us.”

 A special presentation was shown about the unique derech halimud (approach to learning and acquiring Torah) that the Rebbe has pioneered. It has made waves around the world, as bachurim and yungeleit have demonstrated mastery of enormous amounts of Shas by heart. This is the fruit of a special initiative known as “mezumanim,” in which they learn and review the dapim many times, until they know it by heart—raising “Shas Yidden” in our generation. “The women are well aware that their brothers, husbands, and future husbands—bachurim, kollel yungeleit, as well as balebatim—are engaged in this program, and dedicate incredible amounts of time to the toil and mastery of Torah,” explained an organizer. “This is their time to take pride in supporting this.”

 The event first catered to all the school-aged girls, who spent an hour in the hall—followed by a standing room only event for the high-school girls and the women. Rebbetzin Kohn, the Rebbetzin of Rav Chaim Kohn, Rov of the Gerer shtiebel in Flatbush, and the Rosh Beis Din of a prominent Beis Din, addressed the assemblage. Every attendee merited a chance to greet the Rebbetzin and her family personally.

 The Rebbetzin, who is a longtime mechaneches in her own right, connected with each person who went by to greet her… ensuring that the connection and the elevation will linger for a long time to come.
