Arson Suspect Caught in Boro Park After Vehicle Fires
By BoroPark24 Staff
Boro Park Shomrim and the NYPD teamed up to apprehend an arson suspect who set two vehicles ablaze in the neighborhood. The swift response, fueled by Shomrim’s relentless camera work and coordination with police, led to the suspect’s arrest after a multi-day operation.
It started Tuesday when Shomrim received a report of a car torched overnight on Cortelyou Road. Surveillance footage revealed a suspect piling garbage bags onto the vehicle, setting it on fire, and fleeing by bicycle. The next night, as Boro Park 24 reported, another vehicle was engulfed at Ocean Parkway and Avenue C. Shomrim’s IT unit confirmed the same suspect was behind both incidents, prompting an urgent manhunt.
Shomrim volunteers tracked the suspect’s movements through camera analysis and set up 24-hour patrols. Two days later, on Thursday night, they spotted him. Keeping him in sight, Shomrim coordinated with the NYPD, who swiftly arrested the suspect.
