BDE: Mrs. Miriam Berman, a”h

YS Gold

We regret to inform you of the passing of Mrs. Miriam Berman, a”h, longtime Boro Park resident and a woman known for her yiras Shomayim and ahavas chessed. She was 86 years of age.

The nifteres was born in the year 1936 in the city of Riga, Latvia, to her parents, Reb Baruch and Chaya Axelrod. Her father was known as a tremendous yerei Shomayim and ba’al middos, and her mother was a longtime teacher in Beis Yaakov—thus, Miriam was raised on a deep tradition of Torah and yiras Shomayim. The Axelrods were fortunate to get out of Riga on the last boat and were thus saved from the Holocaust.

She married, ybl”ch, Reb Moshe Berman, a prominent Stoliner Chossid, and together they raised a beautiful family.

The chessed activities of Mrs. Berman were legendary.

“In her younger years, she would always take care of older and infirm women,” recalls a grandson. An acquaintance recalls that, when her son became involved in kiruv in Russia, the nifteres would always bring care packages and warm clothing to send to the children of Russia. She also had a special place in her heart for shidduchim, and made countless phone calls to try and make shidduchim, many of which ultimately culminated in successful matches.

“The most important and genuine thing that inspired me about my grandmother was that she always davened and benched every word from a siddur very slowly, saying every word with the right dikduk... even her asher yatzar was from a siddur, slowly saying every word,” a grandson told BoroPark24.

The levaya will take place Sunday morning at 11:00 in front of the Stoliner Shul, 1601 48th Street.

Yehi zichra baruch.
