Boro Park Set for Mosquito Control Measures

By BoroPark24 Staff

As part of ongoing efforts to combat the spread of the West Nile virus, parts of Boro Park, including the 11219 area, will be targeted for mosquito control measures on Monday August 12th.

The New York City Health Department is taking proactive steps to reduce the mosquito population and minimize the risk of the virus spreading in the community.

The Health Department employs two primary methods of pesticide application:

  • Adulticide Spraying: This method involves trucks spraying pesticide to eliminate adult mosquitoes. It is used when testing indicates a high risk to human health. The spraying will take place in the evening, targeting residential areas and parks to maximize effectiveness.
  • Aerial Larviciding: In this approach, helicopters are used to drop eco-friendly larvicide over marshes and large natural areas to kill young mosquitoes before they can mature into adults. This method is reserved for non-residential areas, ensuring that the city’s natural habitats are treated without affecting homes.
