Breaking: Sinkhole Opened on 14th Avenue After Pothole Worsened
By Y.M. Lowy
A developing road hazard in Boro Park turned more serious today, as a sinkhole opened at 14th Avenue and 39th Street.
Just yesterday, Chaveirim had placed cones around a large pothole at the location to help prevent damage to passing vehicles. Since then, the condition worsened significantly, with the roadway giving way and leaving a deep hole in the ground.
The sinkhole likely formed as vehicles continued driving over the already weakened area, creating a serious hazard for drivers.
The FDNY is on scene, and the area is being secured. Drivers are urged to avoid the location and use alternate routes.
The intersection is also a route for MTA bus service, and the incident is impacting bus operations in the area.
