Of the $1.7 trillion budget the US Congress passed, on Dec. 22, 2022, for the country’s 2023 fiscal year, Sens. Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand and US Rep. Hakeem Jeffrey’s and Brooklyn’s other representatives secured more than $24 million, just for projects that will take place across Brooklyn.

The US Congress allocated for Brooklyn: $24,394,000 that is slotted to will fund affordable housing services, improvements to healthcare at local hospitals, and anti-violence initiatives.

For example, Boro Park’s Maimonides Medical Center will receive $1,650,000 to expand Community Care of Brooklyn Navigator, which the hospital calls “a one-stop shop for all care management and social service referrals in Brooklyn.”

In addition, Ohel Children’s Home and Family Services, who Ohel Jaffa Family Campus is located on 1268 East 14th St., was allocated $2,000,000 to better teach self-sufficiency by constructing classrooms, conference rooms, reception locker rooms, computer training rooms, kitchens, dining areas, a simulated office, and storage facilities for the PROS Day Program and the Prevocational and Supported Employment Program. The federal funding will also enhance Ohel’s capacity to provide services for adults with psychiatric and developmental disabilities.

“From increasing economic opportunity, and expanding health care services, to delivering small business support and enhancing anti-violence programs, these local Brooklyn organizations are making a huge impact on our fellow Brooklynites and our communities,” said Sen. Majority Leader Schumer. “I’m proud to bring this substantial federal funding to our communities and I’ll keep fighting to help these organizations continue their great work across the borough.”

“We will continue to work hard to make life better for everyday New Yorkers back home in Brooklyn,” said US. Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, who serves as the minority leader of the US House of Representatives.
