Citi Bike Adds 230 Stations Across NYC
By Y.M. Lowy
Citi Bike has completed an expansion bringing more than 230 new stations and 3,700 bike docks to seven neighborhoods across the Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens.
The expansion adds service to Norwood, Riverdale, Brownsville, East New York, Kensington, Bay Ridge and Forest Hills, including areas that previously had limited or no Citi Bike access.
In Brooklyn, the new stations serve Bay Ridge, Brownsville, East New York and Kensington. Since the first Bay Ridge stations opened last September, riders have taken more than 75,000 trips from the neighborhood.
The expansion adds about 10 square miles to Citi Bike’s service area, bringing its total coverage to 86.5 square miles. The system now reaches areas where 62% of New York City residents live.
More docks are also planned for this fall in neighborhoods already served by Citi Bike, including Williamsburg, Greenpoint and Gowanus, as well as Midtown and Chelsea.
