Cuomo Suspends Outdoor Subway Service at 2pm

Gov. Andrew Cuomo suspended all outdoor subway service starting at 2pm. Other rails are expected to close at 3pm

“Start getting home now,” said the governor, who added that many roads might be closed this afternoon as well. “Don’t wait for that last train. Conditions are deteriorating.

“Bottom line: This is a serious situation. The snow is creating dangerous, life-threatening conditions.”

New Yorkers travelling by air also should stay home, as 95% of flights have been cancelled at JFK and the remaining 5% are expecting to be cancelled as well. All of the flights at LaGuardia are cancelled. Newark is operating, but only has four flights scheduled to depart.

“Expect major closures,” the governor said. “I don’t want anyone to be surprised. It is going to get very bad very quickly.”
