Dramatic Chase Last Night: Police Car Struck as Driver Flees Traffic Stop; Shomrim Helps Track Down Suspect

Around 8 p.m. Wednesday evening, officers from the NYPD’s 62nd Precinct attempted to pull over a vehicle on Bay Parkway and 68th Street. Instead of stopping, the driver sped off, crashing into a police car before taking off again.

Officers tried to follow the vehicle but lost sight of it. The 62nd Precinct then alerted Shomrim, who quickly joined the search. Within minutes, Shomrim volunteers located the abandoned car on Fort Hamilton Parkway and 43rd Street.

After reviewing security footage, Shomrim spotted the suspect entering another car on the block, which belonged to his brother. Both men were soon found sitting inside the vehicle.

With assistance from an NYPD helicopter, officers approached with guns drawn and arrested the two without incident.

Later that night, police and Shomrim searched the area for a black bag the suspect reportedly dropped while fleeing, though it was never found. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
