DSNY Calling on Residents to Report Garbage Complaints on Others

By Idy Perl
The NY Sanitation Department is trying some new tactics to encourage residents to be accountable for their garbage.
According to the law, property owners are required to keep the sidewalk in front of their property clean, and the fines for repeat offenders are higher than ever at $500.
With the launch of the “Sidewalk Slobs” initiative, the sanitation department is calling on residents to submit complaints about residential or commercial property owners whose sidewalks are full of garbage.
Complaints will be posted on the new “Wall of Shame” website and will be updated when the property owner receives a summons for the mess in front of their property.
