DSNY Emergency Snow Shovelers Still Waiting For Pay After Winter Hiring Push
Yisroel R.
Some New Yorkers who signed up to work as emergency snow shovelers for the New York City Department of Sanitation this past winter after an emergency campaign by Mayor Zohran Mamdani, say they are still waiting to be paid months after the snowstorms ended.
The city heavily promoted the hiring effort during the winter storms, encouraging residents to sign up to help clear bus stops, hydrants, crosswalks, and sidewalks across the five boroughs.
According to a report, several workers said they completed the work but have not yet received payment.
The city said some of the delays are connected to documentation issues involving workers’ paperwork and processing requirements. Some shovelers, however, say they are still waiting for answers about when they will finally receive their paychecks.
