FDNY Tests New Drone Technology to Boost Fire and Rescue Efforts
The FDNY is advancing its use of drone technology to improve fire and rescue operations across New York City.
Recently, FDNY Commissioner Robert S. Tucker joined leaders from the NYPD and other agencies to test new drones. The tests lasted a week and were done with help from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
Commissioner Tucker noted the FDNY’s long history with drone use, starting with their first deployment in 2017. Since then, drone technology has evolved significantly and is now used across all five boroughs.
These drones give commanders a view from above that helps them see what is happening during emergencies, aiding in faster, safer decision-making during emergencies.
With drones on their side, New York’s firefighters are ready to handle emergencies smarter and safer than ever before.
