Feds Clear the Way for NYC Congestion Pricing

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has approved a tax—known as Congestion Pricing— on all drivers into Manhattan’s central business district. This, in an effort to reduce congestion and fund the region’s mass transit.
“Congestion pricing will reduce traffic in our crowded downtown, improve air quality and provide critical resources to the MTA,” said Governor Hochul in a statement. With the green light from the federal government, we look forward to moving ahead with the implementation of this program.”
Motorists can be tolled up to $23 for entering the business district, which comprises any Manhattan streets below Central Park. It does not affect those driving on the West Side Highway and the FDR Drive.
