Closure Alert: DOT Crews Carry Out Extensive Repairs at 14th Avenue Sinkhole Site
By BoroPark24 Staff
DOT crews are carrying out extensive work today at 14th Avenue and 39th Street, closing the intersection as heavy machinery is brought in to repair the site of a large sinkhole.
The sinkhole opened earlier this year after a large pothole worsened and the roadway gave way. Chaveirim had placed cones around the pothole to protect passing vehicles, and the FDNY responded to the scene and secured the area once the sinkhole opened.
As the hole continued to grow, Chaveirim reached out to the DOT to address the hazard. The original incident also affected MTA bus service through the intersection.
Crews are now undertaking extensive excavation and repair work, with barriers surrounding the site and the roadway closed to traffic. Drivers should use alternate routes while the work is underway.
