We may be in the thick of summer, but Elul and the Yamim Nora'im are right around the corner, a time when tefillah for a sweet new year is foremost in our minds.
In this vein, the nearly 120-year-old Congregation Beth El--Boro Park's oldest kehillah--announced the appointment of the legendary singer Shulem Lemmer as its chazzan for the Yamim Nora'im of 5786. This comes within a year of the passing of Beth El's longtime Chazzan Benzion Miller, z"l.
A previous appearance by Lemmer this past Shabbos Chanukah drew a crowd of thousands which packed Beth El to the rafters, and it is anticipated that many Boro Park residents will once again fill the pews of this storied congregation to hear a sweet and impassioned tefillah.
The chazzan announced this exciting development as follows: "I’m so excited to announce that this year I’ll be davening at Young Israel Beth El in Boro Park for Selichos, Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur. The Shul has a long history with many great chazzanim. It is here that the voices of the world’s most revered Chazzanim, from the legendary Moshe Koussevitzky z”l, Mordechai Hershman z”l to Benzion Miller z”l, have soared heavenward, carrying with them the heartfelt bakashos of Am Yisrael. I hope you can join us as we daven together for a sweet new year."
