The Mapleton branch of the Brooklyn Public Library has been located at the corner of 17th Avenue and 60th Street for close to seventy-five years.

This week, the BPL announced that the branch would be closed for renovations with a reopening date set for 2026.

“Brooklyn Public Library is renovating Mapleton Library to better serve and support you. The renovation will replace or update critical and major infrastructure: the roof and building facade, the heating and cooling system and the fire prevention and safety systems,” said a statement from the library.

In addition to the renovation work, Mapleton Library will receive a beautiful new outdoor garden space for patrons to attend programs and enjoy a good book.
