Mayor Adams Announces Appointments of NYPD Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner

Mayor Adams held a press conference this morning announcing the appointments of Edward Caban to the job of NYPD Commissioner and Tanya Kinsella as Deputy Commissioner of the City of New York.

Caban was appointed as interim NYPD Commissioner on July 1, as reported by BoroPark24 here, directly after the sudden departure of Keechant Sewell on June 30.

"Many of you slept well in May and in June going into July, the mayor said during the press conference. "You know why? Because you didn't hear fireworks going on like this was Iraq in 1920 and 1921.. Unlike other cities, you don't see encampments block after block after block. You don't see a city that's coming back. You see a city that is back! 

"With regard to our incoming Police Commissioner Edward, I know I appointed the right person as I saw in Eddie long ago the possibilities...You have been successful in initiatives and partnerships to get the ghost cars off our streets, illegal guns .. allowing us to continue to make our city a safe place and already showing strong results. Major crimes are down in all 68 enforcement zones because of your leadership. ..and the department's focus on quality of life issues while doing everything in your power to keep our city safe."

"First of all," Deputy Commissioner Tanya Kinsella stated, "I want to thank G-d Almighty before thanking the mayor."

The announcement was made at the 40th Precinct in the Bronx, as that station launched Caban's police career in 1991.
