Mayor Adams Promises a fresh start with the new NYPD Anti-Gun Team

After the heightened gun violence in NYC, the new NYPD plainclothes unit was tasked with wiping out gun violence. Mayor Eric Adams vowed that this will be a fresh start.
“We are going to learn from the past so we don’t repeat the past,” Adams said on MSNBC a day after outlining a plan to curb violence in the city.
He said officers will be required to keep their body cameras turned on while interacting with the public. They will also be required to wear apparel that will make them easily identifiable as cops.
“We are not going to have tactics used in this city that will be abusive to any New Yorker in general, specifically to black and brown men.
“This is going to be a unit that is going to zero in on guns and gangs and violence,” Adams said.
The police department will start by adding “neighborhood safety teams,” the new police units, to the 30 most dangerous police precincts where 80 percent of the city’s violence takes place over the next few weeks.
Since Adams was sworn in as mayor on January 1st there were way too many shootings and Adams admitted last week that he often doesn’t feel safe riding the subway.
