The Second Cop Injured in the Harlem Shooting Dies
A New York City police officer gravely wounded in the Harlem shooting that took his partner’s life last week has also died of his injuries, police Commissioner Keechant Sewell said Tuesday.
Officer Wilbert Mora and Officer Jason Rivera were shot last Friday while responding to a domestic incident in which a woman felt threatened by her adult son. Lashawn McNeil targeted the officers from a bedroom door instantly killing Rivera while Mora struggled for four days in a manhattan hospital before succumbing to his wounds Tuesday.
“It’s with great sadness I announce the passing of Police Officer Wilbert Mora,” Sewell said in a tweet. "Wilbert is 3 times a hero. For choosing a life of service. For sacrificing his life to protect others. For giving life even in death through organ donation. Our heads are bowed & our hearts are heavy."
The gunman, 47, who was shot by a third police officer died Monday from his wounds.
