New Retail Project Coming to Century 21 Building
By Y.M. Lowy
The old Century 21 building in Bay Ridge, a famous shopping destination for Boro Park families, has finally been sold, ending years of shifting plans.
The corner property on 86th Street went for $47.5 million and was bought by MBC Real Estate and Osiris Ventures. The new owners plan to turn it into a 95,000-square-foot ‘Century Marketplace’ anchored by a grocery store, with a new two-story building, an atrium facing 86th Street, and new street-level shops. The $100 million project is set to begin construction later this year.
Century 21, which opened on that block in 1961, closed in 2020 after filing for bankruptcy during COVID. Since then, several redevelopment ideas came and went, but none moved forward, leaving residents frustrated and the property sitting empty.
Retail tenants are expected to be announced soon.
