The New York City Emergency Management Department has issued an advisory for heavy rainfall and potential flash flooding from Today, August 6, into Wednesday, August 7.
A citywide Flood Watch is in effect from 2:00 p.m. Tuesday to 12:00 p.m. Wednesday. The forecast predicts isolated showers and thunderstorms, with the heaviest rain expected Tuesday evening into early Wednesday morning.
Mayor Eric Adams urged residents to prepare in advance and stay informed about the storm. "We expect disruptions from this weather, but all relevant city agencies are activated and prepared. Stay informed, stay alert, and stay safe."
The city has activated its Flash Flood Emergency Plan, coordinating with the National Weather Service, city and state agencies, and utility providers. Specialized emergency assets and response teams are on standby for rapid deployment.
