Rite Aid Closes All Stores After Second Bankruptcy
By Y.M. Lowy
Rite Aid, once a familiar stop for prescriptions and everyday essentials in Boro Park, has officially closed all its remaining stores nationwide after filing for bankruptcy again in May.
The company confirmed the news this week, thanking customers for their years of support. Its website now only provides access to prescription records and directions to nearby pharmacies that can fill transfers.
For decades, Rite Aid served Boro Park residents not just as a pharmacy but as a neighborhood fixture. But debt, legal battles, and fierce competition from larger chains like CVS and Walgreens ultimately forced the closures.
The shutdown is part of a broader trend in the pharmacy industry, as both CVS and Walgreens continue to close hundreds of stores across the country.
