Street Safety Reminder as Days Grow Darker
By Y.M. Lowy
This week New York will see its last 7 p.m. sunset of the season. From here on, the days grow shorter and night falls earlier.
With evenings arriving sooner, it is a good time for parents to review street safety with their children. Remind them to cross streets carefully, to stop and look both ways, and to avoid running between parked cars where drivers might not see them. Make it clear that drivers may not see them at all in the dark and that ignoring these rules could put their lives in danger.
Encourage children to play closer to home once it gets dark. A few clear reminders can help keep kids safe while they continue to enjoy outdoor activities as the winter is coming.
