Unusual Federal Operation Near Boro Park Raises Questions

By Y.M. Lowy

An unexpected law enforcement operation at a Sunset Park storage warehouse yesterday drew attention after federal agents and NYPD detectives were seen hauling out large boxes and searching through storage lockers. A van marked with the Department of Homeland Security was parked outside, adding to the curiosity as teams used hand trucks to remove stacks of containers from the building. For anyone passing by, the scene looked like an ICE major raid.

Police later explained that the activity had nothing to do with immigration enforcement. NYPD sources said officers were working with Homeland Security Investigations, a federal branch focused on criminal cases, not ICE. No detainments were made, and the operation was tied to a long-running investigation into a serious crime.

Even as masked individuals were spotted leaving in an unmarked white van later in the day, officials emphasized that this was a targeted criminal probe that has been underway for years.

The unusual level of activity has left many curious about what investigators were searching for and what developments may follow in the case.
