Walgreens on 16th Avenue Closes, Seeks to Sell Store Furniture

A trend that is being seen around the country, and has also filtered into Boro Park, is the closing of large pharmacies. The Walgreen’s chain has been especially hard-hit with shoplifting and has reported drop in earnings. 

It is unclear whether the closing of a sister location on Eighteenth Avenue one year ago, and the closing of the 16th Avenue location in recent days, is likewise related to this. Perhaps Boro Park residents prefer their neighborhood, mom-and-pop pharmacies. The closings may also be due to the high cost of rent on Boro Park’s business promenades. 

Following their closing, the pharmacy is now looking to get rid of their store furniture at a discounted rate, as yet another large retailer closes its doors in Boro Park.
