WATCH OUT: MTA Adds B11 Line to Camera Enforcement Program
By Y.M. Lowy
Drivers in our Boro Park, take note: the B11 bus route will now have Automated Camera Enforcement (ACE), and it’s not just for buses. Starting Monday, November 10, vehicles that illegally use bus lanes or busways, block bus stops, or double-park will receive warning notices in the mail. After the 60-day warning period, fines begin at $50 and can rise to $250 for repeat offenses.
The B11 is one of four new routes getting cameras this month, along with the Bx9, Bx15, and B63 in the Bronx and Brooklyn. These routes join 47 others already monitored citywide. More than 1,400 buses now have cameras, covering 545 miles and serving over 840,000 daily riders.
The program has already made a difference. Collisions are down 20%, blocked bus stops are reduced by 40%, and emissions have dropped an estimated 5–10%.
ACE is run with the New York City Department of Transportation and Department of Finance. Cameras capture video, images, license plates, location, and time stamps. All data is securely reviewed and processed by city employees.
Since launching in June 2024, ACE has expanded across all five boroughs.
