What’s Open and What’s Closed This July 4th

By Y.M. Lowy

The 4th of July is ahead of us, a day that marks the birth of the United States as an independent nation, commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in 1776, when the 13 American colonies declared their separation from Great Britain.

In observance of the holiday, here’s what will be closed or affected this Friday:

All federal, state, and city offices will be closed on July Fourth, including the Department of Motor Vehicles, City and State Courts, Social Security offices, and all post offices. There will be no mail delivery.

Most banks will also be closed for the day, though online and mobile banking services will still be available.

Parking rules will also be relaxed. Alternate Side Parking regulations will be suspended for the day. No stopping, no standing, and no parking rules will also be suspended, except where those rules apply every day or at all times. Parking meters do not need to be paid on July 4th.
