Winter Weather Advisory in Effect!
By Y.M. Lowy
Get ready, New Yorkers! The NYC Department of Sanitation has issued a Winter Operations Advisory for Tuesday, December 24, starting at 4:00 a.m. If you can, stay off the road. Snow is expected to fall throughout the morning, with up to an inch hitting the city just in time for the rush hour. With freezing temps, the snow will stick. DSNY is fully prepped with 700 salt spreaders and 700 million pounds of salt to keep the streets safe.
Don’t forget that property owners are responsible for clearing sidewalks. Make sure to clear a 4-foot path and never push snow into streets or bike lanes—it’s illegal and makes cleanup harder. Fines for not clearing your sidewalks can range from $100 to $250.
Alternate Side Parking is suspended on December 24 to make way for snow operations.
