by YS Gold
Agudas Yisroel Snif Chofetz Chaim on 18th Avenue, near 54th Street, has served this community as a shul for more than 90 years. In this time, it merited to have prominent Rabbonim at its helm, including Rav Dovid Kviat, a legendary marbitz Torah and alumnus of the Mirer yeshiva in Poland, who served the shul for more than four decades.
He was succeeded by his son, Rav Avrohom Eliezer Kviat, a talmid chochom and marbitz Torah in the Aleksander yeshiva, who served the shul as rov until his untimely passing a few months ago.
Rav Yaakov Feiner, shlit”a, a longtime prominent misplalel in the Shul has served as a beloved maggid shiur in the Yeshiva Tiferes Elimelech for decades. He was a natural choice to succeed his forebears, and was appointed rov of the shul in recent weeks, ushering in a new era in the illustrious history of the shul.
A hachtoroh event took place Sunday evening to formally welcome the rov. The event was addressed by Rabbi Chaim Dovid Zweibel of Agudas Yisroel, Rav Binyomin Laundau, Tosher Dayan, who is a brother-in-law of the rov, Rav Simche Cynamon and Reb Yehuda Assaf addressed the event on behalf of the members of the Kehillah, and by the new Rov, Rav Yaakov Feiner, shlit”a.
