Readers Write: Police Officers, Give the Tickets a Break
Dear BoroPark24,
Please share my lines of frustration so maybe they reach the right ears.
Today was another exhausting day in Boro Park. Many blocks in the middle of the neighborhood were closed off for road work, forcing cars and school buses into confusing detours and backing up traffic for blocks. It feels like this is happening all summer long, one street after another, making it impossible to drive, or park, anywhere.
But what really got to me was watching officers stand in the blazing sun with full energy, handing out tickets non stop. No sympathy. Not even a second thought. While people are stuck in chaos trying to figure out where they are even allowed to drive or park, the police are busy writing summons after summons. People are left with no choice but to park on avenues and in metered zones, but do we really need to be so strict on a day like today?
Yes, they have a job to do. But on days like these, when blocks are blocked off and avenues are jammed, it would be nice if they stepped back a little. People are doing their best. Maybe just for a day or two, let it go.
