The Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) has pledged today to switch all subway stations in the city to all LED lighting, a move which, they say, will generate $6 million in electricity savings, and make for brighter subways.
Thus far, three stations have already had their bulbs switched, and the city has pledged to change all subway bulbs in the city by 2026.
In addition to making riders feel safer by providing more illuminated subways, the MTA says better lighting will enable them to capture better video footage of crimes when they do occur.
