EXCLUSIVE: Shabbos Bell to Return After Hiatus

The Shabbos bell has been the soundtrack ushering in the holy Shabbos for decades in Boro Park. Thousands of women drop everything, and light Shabbos lecht by its sound, and the men know to cease doing melachah when it goes off.

However, for the last three weeks, noticed that the Shabbos bell did not sound. Boro Parkers have been wondering week after week what is going on and why the sound heralding in Shabbos Kodesh isn't heard anymore, and so BoroPark24 stepped up to the plate to find out more.

BoroPark24 spoke with a neighborhood Rov who has been involved with the bell for many years, and he placed us in touch with the people in charge. They, in turn, explained that the high-voltage fuses that bring the electric current to the bell have all crashed.

They have been hard at work repairing the mechanism, restoring all three high-voltage fuses and the transformer, and it has finally been repaired - and has successfully passed rigorous testing - as of Wednesday afternoon.

Boro Park residents can fully expect the bell to be in operation this coming Shabbos Parshas Lech Lecha to usher in the holy Shabbos with its sound.
