Firefighters Rescue Six Workers who were Trapped in Burning Building
Sixty firefighters were necessary to extinguish a fierce blaze that broke out at the bottom floors of a construction site at 6309 4th Ave. this morning at 8:45am, when large plumes of black smoke ascended into the sky above Boro Park.
All hands were on deck to extinguish the flames that emerged from the bottom floors of a five-story building, as 12 Brooklyn FDNY units raced to 4th Avenue and 63rd Street, said representatives of the Fire Department.
Upon arrival, dozens of firefighters put out the fire, while cranes lifted other FDNY officials, who rescued at least six workers who were trapped in the top floors of the building.
Three firefighters were forced to jump from the second floor onto the roof of the building next door after they were trapped by the flames.
Nine firefighters, in all, suffered only minor injuries in the blaze, the FDNY fire chief said.
The cause of the fire is unknown.
