Fully-Vaccinated Americans Can Gather Indoors without Masks, CDC says

When indoors, fully-vaccinated Americans have been given the go-ahead to gather with other vaccinated people without wearing masks and social distancing, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced today.

In addition, vaccinated people can gather with those who unvaccinated and who are considered at low-risk for severe disease, so now, for instance, vaccinated grandparents can visit healthy children and grandchildren.

“We know that people want to get vaccinated so they can get back to doing the things they enjoy with the people they love,” said CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky, in a statement.

When fully vaccinated people venture outside, however, the CDC is continuing to recommend that fully-vaccinated people continue to wear well-fitted masks, avoid large gatherings, and physically distance themselves from others when out in public. The CDC also advised that people who were vaccinated continue to get tested if they develop symptoms of COVID-19.

Americans can consider themselves “fully vaccinated” two weeks after receiving their second doses of vaccine, officials say. Only 9% of the American population, however, or 20 million Americans have been fully vaccinated with federally-authorized COVID-19 vaccines so far, according to the CDC.
