Mayoral Candidate Andrew Yang Visits Toys 4 U to Film Ads for His Campaign

By Yehudit Garmaise

Mayoral candidate Andrew Yang visited this afternoon Toys 4 U, at 4714 13 Ave., which he called “the heart of Boro Park,” to meet Boro Parkers and shoot video footage to add to his campaign’s television and social media advertisements.

“It is unusual for our community to be included in such ads,” said an onlooker. “Yang was proud to be with us, and many people on the street stopped him to express their support.”

In particular, Boro Parkers on 13th Ave. wanted to thank Yang “for his support of yeshiva education and his pro-business stance,” while others said that they found Yang to be a “fresh face who has new ideas.”

Later in the day, Yang will also visit Coney Island, the Brooklyn Museum, and Sheepshead Bay to meet people and to shoot video footage, which will feature New Yorkers from all five boroughs.

“He loved to see everyone rushing around and shopping on a Friday,” said an onlooker, who added that Yang enjoyed and found exciting the erev Shabbos hustle and bustle of the neighborhood.

During his hour visit to Toys 4 U, Yang looked at many toys, which he appreciated play such a crucial role in a neighborhood that is not reliant on entertaining children with technology. For instance, the candidate was impressed with the Mitzvah Kinder, which are custom-made toys for the community.

Heshy Rubinstein, who was showing Yang around the store, held up a toy called, “Magic Show,” and joked with Yang by saying, “If you want to be mayor, you are going to have to learn some magic tricks to get New York City back to where it was in the past.”

Why is Yang making it a point to include Boro Park in his mayoral advertising campaign?

“Yang takes the Jewish community very seriously,”  explained David Schwartz, Yang’s director of Jewish community outreach. “He wants to include the Orthodox Jewish community in his TV ads because he sees us as partners in the coalition he is building. Yang wants the Jewish community to be included in his broader message.

“Andrew knows how much our community contributes to the city.”
