New York City… Smells
By Idy Perl
Summer in New York City has never smelled pleasant, but residents are complaining that this year it worse than ever.
Data shows that 311 has received more complaints about bad odor between May 1st and July 23rd of this year than the same time period in any year since 2010.
The multiple heat waves this summer that brought record breaking temperatures and humidity to the city have been blamed for the terrible smells. The high temperatures create the perfect environments for bacteria to grow at a rapid rate, which makes the smells stronger than usual.
We can only hope that Mayor Adams teaching New Yorkers about the wonders of garbage cans will help mitigate the issue.
