NYC Recommends Steep Fines for Violators of “Skip the Stuff” Bill

Back in February, New York City Council passed the Skip the Stuff bill, which bans takeout food establishments from sending extra plastic cutlery and sauce packets to those who did not request them, in an effort to eliminate waste.
"I voted against this law and actually called it a 'dumb bill' during the Council session," Councilman Kalman Yeger shared with BoroPark24. "Unfortunately, it passed the Council 43-7."
On Tuesday, the City recommended fines ranging from $50 to $250 for any restaurants violating his bill. The financial penalties will kick in on July 1.
The law comes after the City has passed some similar laws targeting single-use items in recent years.
