Close to one thousand Slabodka alumni gathered at the Newark Airport Marriot for an unforgettable evening together with their beloved Rosh Yeshiva, Haga’on Rav Moshe Hillel Hirsch, shlit”a. who arrived in America to be mechazek the yeshiva and its alumni here.
The evening was filled with highlights from the moment the talmidim exuberantly greeted their Rosh Yeshiva.
An address was given by the Lakewood Rosh Yeshiva, Rav Yeruchom Olshin, shlit”a, who lauded Rav Hirsch, one of the remaining talmidim of his grandfather, the illustrious Rav Aharon Kotler, zt”l, of Lakewood. “He is not only the Slabodka Rosh Yeshiva—he is Klal Yisroel’s Rosh Yeshiva,” he said.
Providing a musical backdrop to the evening was the Mendy Hershkowitz Band, and singers Moti Ilowitz and Yidi Bialistotzky, accompanied by Shirah Choir, which performed original compositions on the themes of the exaltedness and history of the Slabodka Yeshiva.
A live hookup was made to Bnei Brak wherein the Rosh Yeshiva, Haga’on Rav Dov Landau, answered questions of the talmidim on timely matters and issues.
As the scores of Slabodka alumni left the hall, it was with a renewed bond with their illustrious alma matter, the legendary Slabodka Yeshiva in Bnei Brak, and a pride in having learned there.
