Krausz Shtreimels Offers Second Shtreimels for $750: Price Never to Be Seen Again

By Yehudit Garmaise

Now is the time for Chassidim who wear shtreimlach to consider whether they want or need new ones because through Thursday, Krausz Shtreimel, which has been located at 4902 16th Ave. for 25 years, is selling “second shtreimels” for $750, which is a price that will never be seen again.

Second shtreimels, which are heartier than the regular ones, are worn on days that are rainy and humid, which is bad for regular shtreimlach’s fur, or used for travel or to keep in the country.

In addition to needing “regen shtreimlach” for inclement weather, many Yidden don’t like the hassle of shlepping their regular shtreimlach to Florida or to their bungalows in the country.

One Krausz customer, for instance, who travels often to China, recently bought a second shtreimal to keep there.

Krausz Shtreimel, which started providing Yidden with beautiful shtreimlach in Montreal in 1971, is moving in August to a much larger space with a huge waiting room and an-house factory, where six craftsmen will work to create their custom-made creations.

Many Boro Parkers have already taken advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to purchase new shtreimels at such an inexpensive cost.

For instance, recently, three brothers, one after the other, came in to purchase second shtreimlach in three consecutive days, after hearing about Krausz’s sale.

“For this price, I might as well get two,” one happy customer reported.

“I never expected to find such a perfect beautiful piece for this price,” said Buroch from Boro Park.

“The service was impressive,” Eliezer said. “I was in and out with a brand new shtreimel in less than 10 minutes.”

Although Krausz’s regular shtreimlach, which are made from 100 tails of sable and marten fur, are known for their beauty and style, shtreimel experts say that Yidden should also take care to ensure that their shtreimlach fit properly, feel comfortable, and will stay secure on their heads: even a week or two after their chasunas.

Another thing chassons and other shtreimel-shoppers should keep in mind is that shtreimels are custom-made by hand, and therefore, will always have minor imperfections.

Although they are expensive, high-end items, buyers who have envisioned “the ultimate shtreimel” should be aware that they do not often come out exactly as buyers might have envisioned.

Parents who are zocheh to join their sons to shop for shtreimels should remember that if they do not regularly go to shul, they might not be aware of the most up-to-date shtreimel styles.

For instance, while many younger Yidden favor higher, taller shtreimlach that have fringe, the older generation is not always familiar with this look.

No matter what style Boro Parkers choose: tall, short, light, dark, fringe, or no fringe: Now is the time. At any other time, shtreimels will be more expensive. You will never see this price again.

In addition, readers who mention this article will receive an extra $25 off their purchases.
