NYC Parks to Lose 12% of Its Annual Budget and 1,400 Staffers Due to Mayors' Budget Cuts
by Mindy Cohn
It isn't just the firefighters who are being cut from the New York City budget as reported by BoroPark24 here, but now, New York City parks, including Prospect Park are set to lose more than 1,400 staffers under the latest budget cuts proposed by Mayor Eric Adams.
The reductions in staffing could result in parks being cleaned only once a week, leaving the city's 1,700 parks and their bathrooms in filthy condition.
The newest in an already growing series of budget cuts, as reported by BoroPark24 here. was shared during a public hearing Monday on the city's current spending
The budget cuts are demanded by Adams due to the reality that the city faces a projected $7 billion budget gap in 2025 as a result of the unending flood of illegal migrants into New York City.
While the cuts to park services are about 12% of its budget, the cuts represent less than half of 1% of the city's budget.
The Council claimed that the mayor has mismanaged the illegal migrant crisis and that further cuts will take away critical services that the most vulnerable New Yorkers rely on.
Should the Council vote to reject Adams' November revisions, though, New York City agencies' $111 billion spending plans would be jeopardized.
