NYPD Precincts Collect Donations for Haitians, After Earthquake

At least 1,400 Haitians have died and thousands have been left homeless after last weekend’s huge earthquake that measured 7.2 on the Richter scale, just 11 years after an even larger earthquake killed many more people in Port Au Prince.

In addition, Tropical Storm Grace just left the area after pouring 15 inches of rain on a nation that is reeling from trauma and crisis.

Today, New Yorkers can help to provide relief to Haitians by donating to any NYPD precinct: medical supplies, personal-hygiene items, non-perishable food, baby food, and flashlights for the island nation that is the second in the Americas, only to the US, in freeing itself from colonial rule, which Haiti won from France in 1804.

The NYPD, which posted on Twitter that it is accepting donation said that every one of the city’s precincts is currently accepting donations.
